Karakia

Here at Kōrero.Online, our kaupapa is to begin every class with karakia huataki. Our karakia is non-denominational and is a way of affirming that you are here and ready to learn te reo Māori. We also finish every class with a karakia huatau.

Your kaiako will lead you through this at first, focusing on the call and response section, but gradually you will learn to lead it.

Karakia huataki Whakamāramatanga / Explanation
Takina mai te uru, kia uru
Ka purahuia ki ngā arahoe
He wairua te arahoe
Ko te reo te arahoe
Hei tuakana māku, hō
Taiparatia
Tuturu whakamaua kia tina
Tina!
Haumi e, Hui e,
Tāiki e!

To allow the dispersal of ancient seeds of knowledge
Allow the wairua to flow
The Reo is the pinnacle of learning
It is my guidance, natural to my being
Holdfast to my intention to learn
I accept
I am ready
This responsibility
Is shared.

Your karakia is non-denominational and is an affirmation of your commitment to te reo Māori and to the revitalisation of te reo Māori. You cannot opt out of repeating it at the start and finish of each class.
