Ko tōku reo, tōku ohooho! In 2017 I began my journey of re-earthing the language of my tūpuna under the korowai of Te Wānanga Takiura. After one year of full immersion, I was only at the waharoa. Here, at the waharoa, I heard the karanga of reclaimation, of revitalization inviting me back, a returning home. I then went on to do a 3-year teaching degree specialising in Māori medium. I have since been teaching in Māori medium for the last five years. In between mahi and life, I have been actively seeking kai to nurture my puku Māori. Te Wānanga o Aotearoa and Te Wānanga o Raukawa have helped refine and redefine my arero and whakaaro Māori. Reclaiming my arero Māori has been my reawakening, a reawakening that wanes and waxes, a forever life lesson.
